What Will You Learn?

Vlad Koulikov is a well-rounded can tournament-tested grappler that has a black belt in BJJ and is a Combat Sambo World Champion. With his latest series, Vlad looks to teach Perednyaya Podsechka a technique he first learned in his Russian Sambo days. Perednyaya Podsechka is also known more commonly in Judo and BJJ as Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi. Sasae is a must-learn technique for its usefulness from a wide range of grips, as well as the ability to utilize it in hard-to-stop combinations.

The series is a crash course on the essential concepts of Sasae. If you are looking for a fast way to add a versatile throw to your arsenal then Vlad’s expertise and no-nonsense approach are for you! First, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Sasae including basic grips, footwork, kuzushi, and execution. This will help lay a rock-solid foundation to expand upon with more advanced combinations, and gripping scenarios.

Speaking of grip scenarios, Sasae is a versatile attack that can be executed with a wide variety of grips. This makes it a valuable tool to master due to the possibilities available. One key aspect to making Sasae work is Kuzushi. Kuzushi, or off-balancing, of an opponent, makes them vulnerable to attack. Vlad teaches how to create kuzushi from each grip formation, in a way that makes Sasae much more efficient and effective.

After a brief introduction to the basics and variations of Sasae, Vlad shares his favorite combinations. Sasae is a powerful technique on its own, but its true power is unlocked when used in combination with other techniques. If you are able to threaten with realistic Sasae attacks, your opponent is forced to defend. This is where complementary techniques like Tai Otoshi, Te Guruma, duck under, and even leg grabs become even more effective. Sasae also works at the end of combination sequences! Take your game to another level by mastering Perednyaya Podsechka/Sasae Tsurikomi Ashi!
